How to remove/delete Security Tool virus/malware

// November 18th, 2009 // Malware Related

Yet another “fake antivirus” type threat is currently doing the rounds. This one is called Security Tool.
SecureTool

The installer was downloaded from utilitiesdiscounts.com, which operates an “affiliate tracking” download server, with the scammers getting paid for every person they infect.

When the installer is run, a randomly named folder consisting of numbers is created in this location, a typical one will have the following format C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\75829839\

This folder will contain a .bat file with the same name as the folder, and an executable file, also with the same name as the folder.

The .bat file executes the SecureTool .exe file and then it is free to pester you and scare it’s unsuspecting victim that something is amiss with their computer.

Firstly, Security Tool will change your wallpaper and disable your desktop, in order to try and stop you from accessing programs or things that you may have placed there.

It will then initiate a “scan”…that will no doubt find many fake threats that do not exist on your computer, and demand payment to remove them.

Of course, removal of these “threats will come at a price….

    OK Im having this problem. I have gone to the mbam website which took me to majorgeeks.com and I downloaded it and then nothing happens except more annoying pop ups from the “Security Tool”. It’s even refreshed the page at majorgeeks.com to other things I could download but nothing else. How do I get it to run.
